Phonics Sound Pronunciation Guide

Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing of the English language to show how letters and sounds are linked.

Phonics aims to develop learners’ phonics awareness and give them the ability to hear, identify and manipulate phonemes.  It involves learning the sounds of the English language rather than the alphabet.

When a child is taught phonics the child will be able to recognise sounds in words and will be able to spell them correctly. Many children have problems in reading because they are not able to recognise the sounds of the letters of the alphabet in the words they read.
